DivorceCare

Your Class Leaders The Path To Restoration
Tonya and I realize that it may be difficult for you to even attend a group like this. But, in doing so, you will have taken the first step towards healing, and our prayer is that this group may help you through a difficult chapter in your life. Today, we want to start walking with you along the path towards restoration.

When each of us said "I do", we had no intention of winding up in the throws of divorce. We recognize that divorce is devastating, and that is not God's desired plan for our lives. However, God is able to use every one of us, where we are at right now... Through God's grace, there is life and healing after divorce; as God promises in the Old Testament, "I will repay for the years the locusts have eaten" (Joel 2:25).

If the locusts have destroyed years of your life, there is healing. As we walk and talk and even cry together, you will see God's restoration.

Let's begin today!

Brant & Tonya's Story...
Tonya accepted Christ as her Savior when she was in grade school. She grew up in church as a minister's child. Yet, after just three years of marriage, she found herself alone. Having grown up in church, it should have been easy to walk in a church door to attend her first DivorceCare meeting; but it wasn't. Instead, she parked across the street and watched the others walk in. She was consumed by the thought, "I'm not suppose to be here!" She felt permanently damaged and wondered how life could ever bring her joy again.

Tonya believes that one of the best decisions she made was to fully participate in DivorceCare. Through her group she discovered God's way out of depression and truly experienced God's Grace. She was not alone! After traveling down the tough roads of separation and divorce, Tonya found joy again!

Brant became a Christian shortly after his high school graduation. While still in college, he married a Christian woman and together they had three children. Tragically, the marriage ended in divorce after 11 years. Brant never would have chosen divorce, yet he could not escape it. Through divorce, he was crushed, being too proud to admit that divorce could destroy his family. After separation, Brant was so embarrassed; he had a hard time even stepping foot in church again.

During his divorce, Brant was lost in despair. Yet, after he was reminded of God's promise in the book of Romans to all believers, his despair turned to hope. Paul wrote:

"for we know that God works all things to good for those who love Him." (Roman's 8:28).

God promised that He can bring good out of all things... even divorce! Suddenly, Brant was looking for God's good thing around every corner. And God did not disappoint him! After his divorce, God began to work on Brant's heart, taking him from a place of pride and embarrassment to a place of humility before God and a place of hope.

Several years after their respective divorces, Brant and Tonya first met in June, 2003. Over the next year, they began to date and fell in love. They were married on June 5th, 2004. They vowed and celebrated before God, friends and family, “I will never divorce you.” That is the kind of restoration that God can give!
